New Sites for 2012

For those of you who know, I build every website myself. Doing the work personally allows me to provide special and direct attention to every project I take. So for the past few months, I’ve been working on a few new sites, as well as maintaining a few others. Here are a few of the latest sites to go online.

1- Simply Fishing  is a Utah based fly fishing guide service. They are currently running promotions on and living social where you can pick up a trip with them for only $120. I designed this site, working closely with one of the owners who had a specific vision in mind. The were wanting a logo, a website with a blog. Going with a WordPress platform, this site is easily customize-able and they picked up the basics of WordPress in a few hours. Now they are modifying content, adding posts and spreading the word through social media about their new business. I wish them well. Visit their site:

2- Kyle Graf is a fishing buddy of mine, who has collaborated with me on a project of mine called For the Rise, approached me about getting his own site going where he could document his trips into the outdoors. While his blog was the main part of his site, he also sells a few custom tied flies as well. Once again WordPress fit the bill for his needs and we got started on a site for him. If you like the outdoors, you may be interested in following his blog. He has a knack for writing and picture taking. Expect a new logo one of these days to add a bit more flair to his brand in the near future. Check out his site:

3- 5K Outfitters is a new business in Star Valley Wyoming that specializes in Guided Mule Deer, Elk, Black Bear, and Moose hunts in Wyoming’s famous region G (salt river range). We put together a simple and unique site, a new logo, and started a simple facebook page to get the word out for his business. Visit 5k outfitters website at:

Last week I posted about using facebook, twitter, and other social media outlets to market your business. Today I ran across some interesting information that will help us use these outlets more effectively. It does depend on the time of day that you post your status updates – even the number of posts per day can have an effect on how many new “likes” or followers you are adding. Check out the results from Infograph in the image below. This seems to go along with what I have seen from my social media management experience.

Social media websites like facebook and twitter are often viewed as time wasters and full of teenagers –sure there are plenty of young people on facebook, but a lot of other folks as well – and it keeps growing. It’s a great place to check out old friends, cyber-stalk potential new ones and waste time pretend farming and virtual living. However, business owner are using facebook more and more. “Pages” on facebook are becoming more prevalent and rightfully so. The average user spends over 50 minutes on facebook every day – thats a lot of time for potential clients to browse around – “friending new friends” and “liking” new businesses. It is a great way to get your business in front of a lot of people.

Twitter is the same way – in fact many professionals and celebrities throughout the world have and use twitter accounts. Its an easy way to let people who are interested in you know what is happening in your business – announce promotions – and spread the word about your company.

If you are interested in getting your business on a social media site and don’t know where to start – shoot me an email – we can get you going shortly. It is easy to manage – and if you don’t want to do it yourself, I can do it for you through HVD’s Social Media Management Service.

I’ve never really given this site the attention it deserves. So today launches the launch (if you can launch a launch) of the new and improved High Valley Design. I will use this section of the site to post interesting web design articles, links, tips and other interesting web related things I find online.

If you are on the fence on whether you need a website for your business, let me know – I think you will be surprised at how little it will cost you to get online.
